Dear Parents and Students,
My name is John Perales and I have been selected to be the principal of this new and beautiful high school. I was born and raised in Gilroy and attended Gilroy public schools all of my life. I am proud of this fact and it is an honor to have the opportunity to open and lead Christopher High.
I started my career in education as a social studies teacher and varsity football coach at Gilroy High. I also had the opportunity to teach social studies at Mt. Madonna Continuation High School and became their principal for three years. As the principal of Mt. Madonna Continuation High School, I was able to help lead this school to be recognized as a model continuation high school in California. Additionally, we achieved a six year clear Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) accreditation – something that is not easily achieved by even the most accomplished programs. Next, I was appointed as the principal of South Valley Middle School where I served for three years. I am proud to say that South Valley has become a wonderful place for students and staff and I am proud of our many accomplishments there. I am proud of our community a
nd schools and know that working together we will build a world class high school.
I also want to take this opportunity to share a bit about my family. My wife Leighan was also born and raised in Gilroy and attended our public schools; as a matter of fact we first met our junior year at Gilroy High School. I have three children – John Jr. (10), Ashleigh (7) and Lauren (4). My two oldest children currently attend Las Animas Elementary School and the little one will start there next year. As a family we are excited about the new high school and this new chapter in our lives.

Go Cougars!
