Dear Parents and Students,
It is my pleasure to welcome you to the 2013-14 school year. I am Mrs. Patricia Jolly and I have served as your Assistant Principal at CHS since our school’s opening in 2009. With the promotion of our founding principal, Mr. John Perales, to the position of GUSD Human Resources Director, it is now my honor to serve Christopher High as your new Principal. I will continue to lead and support the excellent progress in student achievement and school traditions that the students and staff have worked so hard to establish at CHS.
We focus on providing a meaningful, rigorous academic program and an environment supportive of learning at high levels in order to best prepare students for success in their college and career choices. We have an outstanding staff that is deeply devoted to the Gilroy community and raising the achievement of our students in order for them to compete on a national scale. The CHS graduates of 2013 include students accepted to: Stanford, Harvard, Cal, Santa Clara, Cal Poly, National Hispanic University, almost every Cal State and University of California campus, as well as many other private and out of state colleges. In addition, we have several students going on to serve our country in each branch of military service. We are so proud of the accomplishments of our students and want to ensure that your child has these opportunities and choices upon his/her graduation from CHS as well. Our academic coordinators are available to guide you and your student(s) through making the right course choices for a meaningful high school experience, as well as preparation for a successful post secondary school path.
CHS maintains a safe learning environment at all levels including physical, emotional and social. As a team, we work to address many of the issues that plague our nation’s high schools. We have taken a strong stance against bullying, gang activity, disrespectful behavior, substance abuse, as well as academic apathy and dishonesty. These issues are addressed with education and counseling, yet ultimately not tolerated at Christopher High School. At the heart of learning is being in a safe and nurturing environment. With this in mind, our school’s motto is, “Expecting All Students to Use Their Hearts and Minds Well.”
I look forward to this coming school year and all of the exciting curricular and extra-curricular achievement that we can attain as a strong community. We both lead and support the learning of our children together and your participation is very important to all of us. I encourage you to join one of our parent clubs this year and to access our website often regarding important dates, activities, and helpful school information. (http://chs.gusd.ca.schoolloop.com).
